Behemoth

So MAG then. I’ve been thinking about it the last few days since the Sony conference, and I’ve been turning to the idea. I love large scale multiplayer games, and I always have since Battlefield 1942.

I think it could be a pretty good game. However, there’s plenty that it needs to have in my opinion.

- A good ranking system – Without one, it’s just going to be another “Halo 3 – My ranks higher than your rank” load of drivel.
Letting players specialize will be awesome if they do it properly.

- Proper team balancing – With 256 players in a game, getting balanced teams isn’t going to be as easy as making sure that both teams have even numbers. If you’ve got one squad rampaging through the other team, sticking any 8 players against them to balance it out won’t work.

- Balancing within teams – As it’s a squad based within this huge battle, I’m guessing there’s going to be a lot of teamwork involved. A few players from each skill range, with the ability to kick players that don’t play with the team.

- Make teamwork essential – If the game gives one player the opportunity to mow down the enemy alone, it’s not a great team game in my opinion.
Maybe things like placing charges to blow open walls need several people to do, or even some of the bigger guns need two people to work together to get the best out of them.

- Variety/Something special – If the gameplays repetitive, it’s going to get very old very quickly, it really needs to stand out from all the other multiplayer shooters.
It needs enough for everyone to do as well. If one squad of 8 runs round and does all the objectives, the other 120 people on their team are going to be running round doing nothing.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of this, but I get the feeling we won’t be seeing anything for a long time.

This game is clearly no where near completion, there is no game footage available at all, Im not even sure it will exist for a long time yet… Im not even sure 256 players is feasible yet, the lag is going to be insane and you will just end up with too many COD 4 noobs who will run about doing whatever they please… Its like MGO its supposed to be stealth action but what does everyone do, run around gunnin with an AK its never gonna change lol… everyone wants to be the glory hero and no one will work in a team…

I think the idea is fantastic and if played with 256 people who actually want some team play the potential is amazing… but i highly doubt it you know…

and for it to hit all those points u made is also highly unrealistic… If they did that with every game FPS would be alot be fun to play in my oppinion lol

I don’t think they’re all unrealistic. Maybe a few of them are aiming a bit high. Battlefield 2 managed pretty well to do most of them, and the rest haven’t been needed before.

I think 256 players is feasible, especially with the PS3. If you get a good enough server, it’d be no problem. I doubt very much it’ll be P2P networking, so the lag won’t be as bad as you’d think.

The biggest problem will be finding 256 players to fill a server I think. Unless the game makes it’s mark at the very beginning, it won’t pick up at all.

Still, I like the idea and the concept.

Im not saying your points were unrealistic im just saying developers are lazy and to expect them to hit them all is unrealistic lol…

Im saying it will be laggy because still some people have shitty connections… look how halo lags or any on line game so imagine 256 people lagging lol

I know what you mean. Hopefully they’ll put the required effort in.

I still think it is a good concept, but whether it will result in a good game will remain to be seen.
